Louise Green
Painter
Born
at Newcastle NSW, Louise Green's lifelong passion for horses
began at about three. She remembers being mad about them, even befor
she started school, and wanting to draw them all the time. Taken for pony rides at a young age she was inspired by their beauty, grace, free spirit and power. She spent most of her childhood and school years in New Zealand. At thirteen owned her first horse. Asketch of him that year won her second place in a magazine competition. Lou recalls feeling " pretty cool " at fifteen when she sold her first drawing, " $20 was a lot in those days! "
In her adult life she bred Quarter Horses, Paint Horses, and Palominos. In her twenties she showed in halter classes for fifteen years and rode in Western events with full regalia of hat, boots and chaps.
Louise lived the horse life and loved it.
Taveling to events, training, grooming and showing didn't leave much time for art. In 1966 she began
lessons and privet tuition. Lou gave up the show circuit to focus on her art.
Producing in pastel, coloured pencil and oil, equine art commissions became seriuos business in the new mellennia selling to Victoria, Sydney, Newcastle and the Manning.
Louise paints landscapes, dogs, flowers and cattle, but her specialty is equine portraiture. Her paintings are characteristically devoid of people who she contends compromise the free spirit of the horse. She seeks to represent the freedom of the horse's individual character.
