In 1902 the Alma Doepel was built and launched from the wharf, the remains of which can still be seen by the river's edge next to the Old Butter Factory.

In 1906 the site became home to the Upper Bellingen Dairy Co-operative, and in 1919 the factory diversified by adding a bacon factory to the southern end of the complex.
